What We Believe

The following explains what we believe and lists some
Bible verses that back our beliefs.

1.  There is one true God manifested in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Isaiah 45:6:  That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.
Genesis 1:26:  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
1 John 5:7:  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
Matthew 28:19:  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
John 1:1:  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Acts 5:3-4:  But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived
 this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

2.  The Bible, as originally written, is the inspired and infallible Word of God.  It is the final standard for doctrine and conduct.
2 Timothy 3:16-17:  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
1 Peter 1:23-25:  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass.  The gras withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

3.  Man was created in the likeness and image of God, but fell by transgression from the state of righteousness
and holiness in which he was created into a state of death in which he is a slave of sin until he is born again.
Genesis 1:27:  So God created man in his image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 2:17:  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
1 Corinthians 15:21:  For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
John 8:34:  Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
Romans 6:6-11:  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
For he that is dead is freed from sin.
Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

4.  Jesus Christ was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life, being both fully God and fully man.
Isaiah 7:14:  Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Matthew 1:18-23:  Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife:
 for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
2 Corinthians 5:21:  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Hebrews 4:15:  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
John 1:1:  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:17:  For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:21:  For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
1 Timothy 2:5:  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

5.  Jesus Christ was punished for our sins so that we would not have to suffer God’s eternal wrath for them
and so that we could have fellowship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Romans 5:9:  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
John 3:16:   For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 17:3:  And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
1 John 1:3:  That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 13:14:  The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

6.  Men must believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and confess Him as Lord to be saved.
Anyone who does this is “born again” and becomes a new person spiritually.
Romans 10:9-10:  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
1 Corinthians 15:13-18:  But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.
Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
2 Corinthians 5:17:  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

7.  There is no other method or religion by which fallen man can be restored to right standing with God.
John 14:6:  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Acts 4:12:  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
1 John 5:12:  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

8.  Those who receive Jesus Christ become children of God and will have the privilege of living with Him forever in a new earth.
John 1:12:  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
2 Peter 3:13:  Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

9.  Sinners who do not receive Jesus Christ will be consciously tormented forever in the lake of fire which is the second death.
  We do not consider it a contradiction of this point that if an unborn child, a child too young to understand the concept of sin,
 or a person who was never mentally capable of comprehending sin dies, that person will be saved
 without having explicitly received Jesus Christ.
Revelation 20:15:  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Matthew 25:46:  And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
2 Timothy 1:9:  Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace,
 which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Romans 7:9:  For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

10.  Jesus commands all believers to be baptized in water.  Salvation does not depend on this act;
it is a public witness of what God has already done on the inside.
Matthew 28:19:  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Acts 10:47:  Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

11.  Jesus commands all believers to partake of the Lord’s Supper, also known as Communion, consisting of bread that signifies Jesus’ body
 that was broken for us and the fruit of the vine that signifies Jesus’ blood that was shed for the remission of our sins
 and the ratification of the New Covenant.
Matthew 26:26-28:  And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat, this is my body.
Mark 14:22-25:  And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
And he said unto them, This is the blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26:  For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying,
This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

12.  Baptism with the Holy Spirit is an event distinct from the new birth and not a requirement for salvation.
Luke 11:13:  If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Acts 1:5:  For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
Acts 2:1-4:  And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 8:12-17:  But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Acts 9:17:  And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus,
that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
Acts 19:1-6:  And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

13.  Speaking with tongues is the evidence that a person has received the baptism with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:1-4:  And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 10:45-46:  And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter,
because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Acts 19:6:  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

14.  All believers are part of the universal Church of Jesus Christ and are His body on the earth.
Ephesians 1:22-23:  And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
Ephesians 4:4-6:  There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Ephesians 5:30:  For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Colossians 1:24:  Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ
in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:

15.  Good works and right living do not cause the new birth, but are its expected results.
Ephesians 2:8-9:  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Titus 3:4-5:  But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us,
by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Titus 3:8:  This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God
might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

16.  Jesus Christ bore our sicknesses and carried our pains as part of His atonement for us.  Therefore, everyone has the right to
receive physical and emotional healing from God for any condition.  A seriously ill person has the right to call for
the elders of the church to anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord and pray the prayer of faith for his healing.
Isaiah 53:4-5:  Surely he hath borne our griefs [literally sicknesses], and carried our sorrows [literally pains]: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Matthew 8:17:  That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
1 Peter 2:24:  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Galatians 3:13:  Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
James 5:14-15:  Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

17.  The believer has been given victory in this life over the devil, the world, the flesh and sin.
1 John 2:13-14:  I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one.
I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men,
because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
1 John 5:4:  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
Galatians 6:14:  But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
Galatians 5:24:  And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Romans 8:12:  Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
Romans 6:6:  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Romans 6:11:  Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

18.  All believers have a part in the Great Commission that the universal Church has received to go and share the good news with every living person.
Matthew 28:19-20:  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.  Amen.
Mark 16:15-18:  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Luke 24:46-47:  And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

19.  Intimate sexual activity is permissible only between a biological man and a biological woman who are married to each other.  All forms of
homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, transgenderism, incest, fornication, adultery and bestiality are sinful perversions.
1 Corinthians 6:9:  Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers,
nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
1 Timothy 1:10:  For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
Romans 1:26-27:  For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working
that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Leviticus 18:22-23:  Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
Leviticus 20:13-16:  If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.
And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast.
And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
Deuteronomy 22:5:  The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
Leviticus 20:20:  And if a man shall lie with his uncle's wife, he hath uncovered his uncle's nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.
Leviticus 18:6-18:  None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.
The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness.
The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover.
The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness.
The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister: she is thy father's near kinswoman.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister: for she is thy mother's near kinswoman.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son's wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness.
Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter,
to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness.
Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.
Leviticus 20:10:  And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.
Exodus 20:14:  Thou shalt not commit adultery.
1 Corinthians 6:18:  Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
Hebrews 13:4:  Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Note:  The "death penalty" scriptures under the Law cited above demonstrate God's declaration that such practices are evil,
but the New Covenant does not advocate the death penalty for such actions.  Paul told the Corinthians. "such were some of you"
and this included people in the list that included two classes of homosexuals in 1 Corinthians 6:9 above.
If Paul had applied the Law's standards to these people, he would have insisted that they be killed.  Instead, he
simply recognized that those engaged in such practices are not genuine Christians.

20.  The manifestations of the Holy Spirit, including but not limited to the ones enumerated in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, are for the Church today.
1 Corinthians 12:7-11:  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
Hebrews 2:4:  God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?
1 Corinthians 13:10:  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

21.  God continues to appoint apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers as ministry gifts to the Body of Christ today.
Ephesians 4:11-13:  And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man,
unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
